The idea of using horse cavalry persisted until 1944, with landings on the Chinese coast being considered. Finally, the idea was shelved, and the US Cavalry went into action as infantry. A specially designed leather rifle scabbard had been developed for the M-1 Garand, and it proved just as useful for mechanized warfare as it had been for the Cavalry. Mounted on Jeeps and Harley WLA motorcycles, it kept the Garand handy and ready for action. Otherwise, the scabbard is in fine shape, with no other damage to the tough brown leather construction. Most interestingly, it boasts a fully intact brown finished metal charging handle cover at top, sports the original stitched leather "plug" at bottom, and is U.
