Monarch Vintage Double Rider Motor Cycle Type Leather Horse Hide Jacket Build

You are now admiring some of my custom jacket work. In this case a design from the 1950's. This reproduction jacket comes from Monarch MFG a once prolific vintage jacket maker.

Patterned by using a rare original jacket from within my personal collection. Let me tell you all about it! This proposed jacket build (REGULAR in sizes 36 through 48 to suit) will be done in a mid 50's style asymmetrical type cross zip configuration. Your jacket will be very well appointed with all those available accouterments as seen back in the day.

Note the French type seams throughout. All of which I follow and now make my jackets so great and an absolute pleasure to wear. What I found unusual about this design is the sleeve hole configuration. Factory done such that the sleeve hole for a given size is enlarged. In the end, appreciably greater in diameter than the standard size for a given size jacket. In addition I've added half gussets to the sleeve assemblies. These half gusseted sleeves create both mobility of for wearer and greatly enhances the look of the jacket. Most notably these same half gussets were once exclusively seen used on early Beck Northeaster Flying Togs jackets. Not to mention, this same half gusset sleeve set up was once widely used as an upgrade on higher end jackets throughout the 1930's.

Particularly aviation type transitional jackets and motor cycle jackets in general & as seen on my earliest example (dated to 1932 to 1934) from within my personal collection. Then and for the most part done away with the on set of WW-2. In this case, I utilized the best aspects from my originally equipped Monarch m/c type half gusseted jackets and my other original 1930's like equipped aviator type jackets from within my personal jacket collection.

There in coming up with the best design to use on my reproduction jacket design. Most notably the outer shell seen on the first example is a navy blue colored horse hide. Done at a special request. Otherwise I generally use Italian or Vicenza/Victory horsehide which I have readily available. The color choices are russet, brown or black.

My horsehide was acquired by me from Italy which I had specially made for my use. It is slow wear and a medium weight that will require some break in but only just. All hardware to be used to build this fine jacket is period correct. The main zipper assembly a large tooth Talon zipper. The accompanying zippers are a #5.

Both large and small zips to have straight bar sliders. All will have leather pulls.

Your proposed jacket's pocket configuration can be done in one of two different ways. As seen with either the original jacket's pocket configuration or with the D-pocket. This jacket's action back panel shown for this particular build is unique to this maker.

If you notice this jacket's back panel is streamline and atypical. On the other hand a typical back panel can be substituted. Your jacket's suggested lining is cotton backed rayon or quilted nylon. Both seen used in the descriptive images. However, that can also be changed to another of choice.

Notably, I have acquired the same double needle machine originally used by Monarch that allows me to recreate French seamed jackets in their entirety. To include the lower sleeve seams as seen done exactly as originally made by Monarch back in the day. All lending its self to a wonderful added touch of authenticity. An upgrade seldom if ever seen on reproduction jackets. As these provided features do not lend it's self well to mass production.

With any of my given jackets & to create the absolute best build possible results I use up to five completely different machines to create a given jacket. As previously explained two of which were the exact same as originally used by Monarch MFG.

On their builds back in the day. As an option, your jacket can be upgraded with a detachable mouton collar. Exactly as seen on the jackets within the descriptive image.

Another suggested optional upgrade also seen within my reproduction jacket within the descriptive images is an inside map/pistol pocket. My inside map pockets are well supported and carry capable. If desired other pocket options are available.

If interested please contact me & I can provide more info or images. Currently, there is a waiting period for all new builds so please contract me to discuss.
