You are now admiring a pair of my Monarch half belt jackets. A favorite vintage jacket maker of mine. A same type of Monarch half belt jacket is being offered here as a proposed new jacket build. Both jackets seen in the descriptive images are a prewar design & examples of what can be built for you.
What I refer to as Monarch's First Generation model jacket. Neither of the two jackets seen in the images attached are available for sale here. But are In fact fine examples of the same model jacket you can expect to have me build for you. This particular model Monarch jacket was in fact their first model to have come equipped with a zipper for closure. Exactly why I refer to this jacket as a Monarch's First Generation jacket.Created using a large front panel that wraps completely around (no interim panel under the arm pits) to the back. All having a slightly smaller back panel than later models.
Resulting in having an ever so smaller sleeve hole than the subsequent war era model that came with the advent of Monarch's A-2 jacket. All seen with slightly more drop from the back to the front along the hem of the jacket.
Lending much to the overall style of the jacket. Notwithstanding, built with Monarch's inset and rotated sleeves for ease of movement. Moreover, all done with elegant French seams complete. All time consuming by today's standards. As a result, more often than not left out of a build by most other makers.
All those fine characteristics that make this Monarch jacket so great can be seen with the provided original black colored horse hide Monarch half belt jacket. Atterned and ultimately duplicated with that chocolate colored goat hide reproduction also seen attached. Either of these two (Art Deco Sunburst Talon or Grommet Talon) correct same zip set ups can be fitted to your build. Or done with an entirely different closure option.
Monarch made a same model jacket available with a button set up verses a zip up. A button up can be done for your jacket build in lieu of a zipper for closure. Facilitated by doing a slight modification to the front panels of this same model jacket. All as seen done on my original Monarch button up jackets from within my personal collection. All buttonholes created using my vintage Reece 101 keyhole buttonhole machine. As seen used on the original black colored Monarch's cuffs in the last attached examples images. As an aside, this proposed optional button up jacket would closely resemble the FREEWHEELERS FOUR CORNERS (Google it) jacket. This pre War zip up Monarch jacket seen here is the exact same basic jacket design used by that Japanese maker. The only difference being configured with button closure verse a zipper. In this case, my version of a same button up half belt jacket will utilize the original First Generation Monarch patterns.
Completely done using French seams with the Monarch spin on the pocket configuration. All the while using the best attributes and accessories of what a Monarch jacket can offer. Currently on the drawing board. If interested & for a better explanation you would need to contact me so I can give you some additional information. For your pending build there are other hides and colors I have available to choose from. Your jacket can be built using two different vegetable tanned colored (chocolate brown or black) goat hide.On the other hand, upgraded with the option of either of three different (russet, brown or black) colors of the vegetable tanned horse hide are also available. The cuffs can be done using two different set ups. Either done with or without the upgrade of inset knitted (storm) cuffs. The brown jacket's cuffs as seen in the attached images were done belted. For the second option I will be more than willing to do using a button cuff like seen in the last images of the original black Monarch jacket.
Either cuff types are correct for a build. This same model half belt jacket can come with any number of back panels. They can be done plain or in any number action back styles imaginable.
Although rare, Monarch jackets were in fact originally built with action back panels. There is no end to lining options. That seen attached is a light or shirt grade plaid wool with solid solid brown colored rayon sleeves. While the original has a medium weight wool Houndstooth body lining and solid black rayon sleeves. My jackets are stitched with the same correct 100% cotton thread originally used by the vintage jacket builders. In fact in most instances done with the same machines originally utilized by Monarch to create their French seams and keyhole button holes. All done with similar stitch count originally seen used. In the end, my jackets more closely resemble those original jackets. That is verses most modern reproduction jacket builders using time and cost saving modern threads and longated stitch counts. Not to mention the use of a large needles that create an oversize hole. In the end, completely changing the intent of having a vintage look to your jacket. The original black Monarch jacket I utilized to configure this particular prewar model Monarch can be seen in the last two descriptive images. As with all my originals, it was taken down to it's individual pieces, patterned and completely rebuilt by me. Now one of my many Monarchs used as one of my prized occasional original wearers. The original hardware seen attached to that black half belt is a nickel M-39 Talon. It has a straight bar puller/slider with rays. In addition I added a nickel Talon ball & chain with rays for the outside upper pocket. Topping it off by added a prewar style map pocket. All examples of upgrades you might want seen implimented on your jacket build. After 10 years of collecting, I own this same model half belt Monarch jacket in sizes 36 through 50. All accumulated by me to give you the absolute most accurate rendition of that original jacket possible. So it is easy enough for me to correctly build an exact same reproduction of an original Monarch half belt jacket in just about any sized desired. Offered here at this price point in sizes 36 through 48. Contact me to discuss & design your build. Please look through the other jackets I offer.
