You are now admiring one of my custom made jackets. In this case, a long time favorite of mine and inspired by a rare original jacket. All patterned using an authentic same 1st generation (from that early model jacket to first use a zipper for closure) model Monarch jacket design.
This Monarch jacket is a truly accurate rendition. Let me tell you all about it!
This particular jacket was done as a late1930s Monarch Aviator in the Half Belt style. Very well appointed with all those available accouterments seen back in the day. Which now makes this jacket so great and an absolute pleasure to wear. Monarch's early style jackets are characterized by having a slightly smaller back panel. Thus creating an ever so slightly smaller sleeve hole & greater angle to the shoulders. Also making the shoulders seams just visible when viewed from the back. All the while adding more cup to the collar hole at the back panel & in between the shoulder seams. In addition, a noticeable droop to the front along the hem where it terminates at the zipper's connection points.
All seen here with this build. The outer shell is a russet colored vegetable tanned slow top coat wear aka Vicenza/Victory horsehide. This horsehide was recently acquired by me from Italy and specially made for my use. It is a medium weight which will require some break in but only just. All hardware used to build this fine jacket is 100% period correct. Right down to the Colt Firearms made buttons. Furthermore & to keep this jacket in the spirit of the 1930's, this jacket was stitched using 100% cotton. Buttonholes done using my vintage Reece 101 Keyhole Buttonhole machine & also restored and brought back to life by me. All lending to a wonderful added touch of authenticity. This jacket's body lining is light to medium (shirt weight) & 100% wool. It is smooth and will not pill. Rayon was my choice for the sleeve's lining. All set up with inset 100% wool cuffs. Real easy to get in and out of this jacket. With any of my given jackets & to create the absolute best build possible I use up to Five completely different machines to create a given jacket. Some of which were also originally used by Monarch MFG. On their builds back in the day. Armpits 23 1/2" to 24". Sleeve length 25 1/2" to 25 3/4". Body length (base of collar to hem) 25 1/4" to 25 1/2".This jacket will be very comfortable of matched to someone of a correct size. If you like what you see but this particular jacket is not correctly sized for you or you might prefer a completely different color or hide type, then another can be made that might better suit you. As an aside, I recently made a same design (Pre-War Monarch) with some subtle changes. Those changes include a full length grommet zip, non pocket flapped or slash pocket configuration, alternate pre War era Monarch label, French type seams complete (see below for further explanation), triple pleated action arched yoke type back panel. In this case, in a Medium size.
That light colored russet seen is not horse hide but in fact a vegetable tanned goat hide. This other available style is seen with the last three pix. That goat hide jacket is not included in this sale and only seen as an option to this size 44 actually listed. Either models and many more can be custom built to your specs. Seen last attached on the images are a set of Monarch sleeves. Superior to most all other make jackets as they are created using both French type seams and rotated or inset to the body of the jacket. Thereby adding much to the comfort of the Monarch jacket by adding mobility. On the other hand also adding much in the way of time and effort in to the build. All seen on that size 40 Medium size jacket attached. An option avoided by most all other modern jacket makers. Reason being, a beyond time consuming option. However, an original nuance that adds much to the elegant design seen used originally and exclusively on all vintage Monarch jackets. Moreover, I recently acquired some fine looking vegetable tanned goat hide in a number of different colors that would make for a great looking and slightly more economical build verses horse hide.
